I like it this way

One of my goals for this blog (rather than the last blog) is that I post every day. Well, I mean, I'll have a little bit of grace for myself when I don't post (like when I was at the beach last weekend,) but "It's already after midnight" isn't a good enough reason not to post. Too bad. Suck it up. Post anyway.

Perhaps some of my writing has suffered from the late nights. But this is a good discipline for me, so I have decided that to post is better than not to post.

Anyway, blogging regularly has had an unintended consequence and it's actually kinda nice. You see, there are days when I had a crappy day at work and all I want to do is come home and sit in front of the TV for a few hours and go to bed. And sometimes I'll do just that.

But blogging regularly has encouraged me to go out and do stuff. To let things happen to me. So that I'll have something to write about.

I don't get a blog post out of it every time. But that's okay. This is still a better life.

And so I leave you with this - a picture of me getting my face licked by a one-eyed dog.

  1. Meredith-
    I hope you get this-
I mean "I hope you are able to receive this" NOT "I hope you understand why I am writing"

I found your blog via the NICE blog which I found reading about a designer Calvin Lee on another blog sharebrain, http://sharebrain.info/braintalk/braintalk-with-calvin-lee/4695/

and it is funny how many things I stumble upon that way - puddle jumping from one virtual friend to another but I digress. (more on my virtual life later)

I am writing to you because I am currently fascinated by people who choose to do some kind of daily discipline in you case the writing - in mine a daily design.

I read the story about the Nice - carnation - I liked the tone, the humor, the honesty, and the over analytical process you used to sort out who deserved the flower, priceless.

I am sure that it matters less for you that people read the daily post as much as it matters that you continue to write them.

It started that way for my designs as well. Using my facebook and flickr accounts as a platform, I create a new design each day as "personal" design work. I am embarking on a year long design project, I have been creating a different graphic design as my facebook profile picture each and every day.

Initially launched as a self imposed daily assignment to allow me to flex my design muscles, it turned into a fascinating exchange between myself and my legion of fans on fb, and flickr. They (my designs) have enabled my to meet people from all over the world who are now seeing my work - commenting, and turning me on to other great design and ephemera, a whole new way of collaboration and inspiration. I have been able to design outside of the bubble of solitude.

I assure you however now that I have stumbled onto your blog, I will be following, I plan on reading the older posts and commenting occasionally (I am know to be loquacious) And don't worry if it is after midnight in PA, it's only 9ish on the west coast, so keep 'em coming I will be watching and designing my next fb graphic as I wait. Cheers, Andrea Cutler

  2. Wow, your designs are great! I've always been so impressed with (and a little jealous of) people who have artistic talent like that. Just tonight, I was sitting next to my husband and I watched him doodle all over a piece of paper. I'd love to doodle, and I can't ever think of anything!

Also, I think it's great how one door leads to another, which leads to three more, etc. That's fascinating, and I hope leads to great places.

So far, the daily posting has been going well, but I am the type who jumps feet first into something and then gets burned out quickly. So we'll see if I'm still at this in 3 months. I hope so!
