Maybe it's just me

At my work, we have a private parking lot behind our building. (People from Philly are always impressed by this. "You have a parking spot? At your job? In Center City?!" Of course I have a parking spot. Doesn't every place have plenty of parking? Oh, wait, this isn't Texas. I forgot.)

Anyway, you only get to park in that lot if you have a special sticker on your car. We get a new one at the start of each fiscal year. So the longer you work there, the more stickers you have.

I park next to this one car almost every day. It's a car that has been parking there for 6 years. It has 6 stickers. And every day, I'm baffled at the way the stickers were placed on the window. I just don't get it. Today I took a picture of the window.

Do you see what happened? She put the purple one on first. Then, the next year, she put the green one on. Why did she leave so much space between them? And then, the next year, she put the blue one with yellow letters. Why did she put it there and not where the blue one with white letters is? And then she put the pink one on. And then the blue one and then the white one. Why? Why would a person do this?

Every time I look at it I think, "Why are people so weird? How could this happen? Who would do such a thing?"

Or is it just me?

(Can you tell I work in the field of finance and accounting? It's systematic, orderly work.)

  1. That would be something I would obsess about no-doubt too.
And I am in design, a much less orderly field than accounting.

What I wanna know is why accumulate them at all? why not just put one on-top of the other? Do they wear the years of parking employment as a badge of honor? H-Ha I have been able to park somewhere for 6yrs. and you haven't - moreover I have been game-fully employed for 6yrs. in one place!. (a sore subject for me)

Aren't they going to run out of room or impede the visibility from that window?

AND why did they screw with the color order - pink 04, green 05, blue 06, pink 07, then BLUE 08 (what the heck happened to GREEN? AND then WHITE 09, where did that come from?

  2. Strangely, I've not noticed the stickers at all since I posted this. I think maybe just talking about it got it out of me system. Thank goodness!

These stickers go on the inside of the window, so the colored side is the sticky side. They aren't that hard to get off, so there's always the option of just taking the old ones off.

Also, the ones for FY10 are brown. And ugly.
