Doggy Basics 101

Dylan had school today.

Well, I guess you could say I did, too.

Dylan is a such a smart dog, as herding dogs tend to be, and he gets bored without some stimulation. And frankly, I don't know how to keep a dog's mind active and not bored. So really this class is as much for me as it is for him.

And we're hoping that if we find ways to work his mind the way that walks work his body, he won't be so prone to growling at Jeff, which will be a good thing. Like they say, a tired dog is a submissive dog.

So tonight we worked on responding to his name (which he is already good at), and sitting and "watching me" and things like that. Dylan did pretty good. He is not only smart, but also very motivated by food. So that made for a productive evening.

When we got home, we showed Jeff the new things we had learned and then Jeff gave it a try, too. And even though Dylan doesn't like Jeff as much, he still did well with the commands. We'll keep working on these things throughout the week.

The only disappointment tonight was that I totally forgot to take any pictures. I made sure I took the camera and then didn't even think about it again until class was over and we were back in the car. Shoot!

Tomorrow, Dylan has his tooth removed. I won't forget to take pictures of that. :)
