Things just kept going wrong

The other night, Jeff left the house to go to a friend's house. But then something went wrong.

His serpentine belt broke. He had to pull over and he tried to call me to tell me what happened. But then something went wrong.

My phone was dead so he couldn't reach me. Eventually, he was able to get in touch with a neighbor who came over and told me what happened. SoI got in the car and headed his way. In the meantime, he called the insurance company about sending out roadside assistance. He had pulled over in front of a big high-rise condo in downtown Philly and he asked the doorman for the address, which he gave to the insurance company, who called the tow truck. Jeff was told it would take about 45 minutes.

I showed up a little while later. I pulled my car up behind Jeff's and turned on my hazards. I sat out on the sidewalk with Jeff and let him be frustrated. And we waited. But then something went wrong.

After 50 minutes, the tow truck still wasn't there, so we called to see where the it was. Sorry, it'll be another 25 minutes. But then something went wrong.

Jeff noticed that the yellow blinking hazard lights were looking dimmer and dimmer. I tried to start my car to make sure everything was okay, but the battery was dead. D'oh! Good thing a tow truck was on its way.

In the meantime, Jeff remembered he had a Frisbee in the trunk of his car and we passed the time by tossing it back and forth. So that something went right.

After 30 more minutes, Jeff called the tow truck to see where he was. But something had gone wrong and we didn't even know it! The doorman had given Jeff the wrong address, so the tow truck driver was at a completely different location. Okay, so NOW it'll be 10 more minutes.

Jeff, standing in front of City Hall, talking to the tow truck driver.

But then something went wrong.

There was a car accident not too far away and the tow truck driver had gotten stuck in traffic. But he'll be there in two minutes!

So FINALLY the tow truck driver showed up (it was more than two minutes), jumped my car, and hooked up Jeff's car. We followed him up to our auto body guy in northeast Philly. Then we drove around for 10 minutes trying to find a place to get enough cash to pay the tow truck driver who only takes cash. Oh, and also, he had to charge us $3.50/mile instead of the $2/mile Jeff had been quoted because now it was night and prices go up at night. Never mind that it was night when Jeff called!

Eventually, things stopped going wrong and we got the car dropped off, the tow truck driver paid, and we made our way home, after 4.5 hours. And we went straight to bed.
