At my work, we send out birthday wishes to people who have been associated with us for a long time. Today in the mail, I received a letter from a wife: "Thank you for the warm birthday wishes for my husband, but he died in January. Please update your records."
Someone else returned a form we sent him with updated spousal information - "Died in March."
I began to imagine these senior citizens going through their last days without their life partners. Having to write notes like this.
And then I teared up a little.
